What is Building Consent?

Building consent is your written approval from local authorities, confirming that your concept plans and designs for your build adhere to the regulations and codes in the New Zealand Building Act of 2004.

This is the permission you need to start construction work on a specific site.

What Work Requires Building Consent?

Most new builds, renovations and some extensions will require building consent. This includes:

  • Structural building: additions, alterations, re-piling, and some demolitions

  • Plumbing and drainage: creating an additional sanitary fixture

  • Relocating a building

  • Retaining walls higher than 1.5 metres

  • Fences or walls higher than 2.5 metres, and all swimming pools and their associated fences

  • Decks, platforms, or bridges more than 1.5 metres above ground level

  • Sheds greater than 30 square metres in floor area

  • Some earthworks and more


Building Consent Application Meeting

Once your concept plans are finalised, we’ll meet with you to discuss the Consent Application process.

The council issues your building consent when they are satisfied with the proposed concept plans and they meet the requirements of the Building Code. To support your successful application, we'll provide all necessary reports and documentation you need.

Typically, the council takes up to 20 days to approve or refuse your application. We make sure you get it right the first time, saving you time and money in the long run.


Full Project Management Throughout

Once your consent application is approved, we can start on the construction. During the build, Stable Group coordinates and facilitates communications of all tradespeople, keeping budgets and schedules in check, and offering down-to-earth guidance every step of the way.

We oversee all aspects with our hands-on approach and attention to detail, allowing you to achieve a hassle free project experience from start to finish.


Applying for Code of Compliance (CCC)

As your build nears completion, the next crucial step is obtaining a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) from the council.

To secure the CCC, the council conducts a thorough final inspection of the development, ensuring that the completed work aligns perfectly with what was initially approved in the consent application.

With our assistance, we’ll ensure your project meets the required standards, so you can navigate the CCC application process smoothly and move forward confidently with your completed build.


Costs Involved

Consent Application Deposit: $5,500 + GST

Consent Application Costs: We will assess and outline the required fees associated with your proposed project.
